Getting your hair wet and having swimming skills are not required!
Exercising in the Water
Water is 12 times more resistant than air, allowing tripled strength gains over land aerobics. Water helps cool the body during exercise. Water supports muscle promoting more efficient toning. Workouts in the water are refreshing. Water cushions the impact of exercise while reducing stress on joints. Exercise in the warm water eases muscle spasms and relaxes tight muscles, increases blood circulation and promotes more fluid joint motion. Some of the benefits of exercising in the water include:
Decreases your heart rate
Increases your cardiovascular endurance as the heart and lungs put forth more effort to meet the increased demand by the muscles for more oxygen
Lowers cholesterol and blood pressure
Increases fitness levels
Helps reduce stress
Increases energy throughout the day
Improves quality of sleep
Decreases appetite and anxiety
Improves focus and concentration
Supports weight loss and weight maintenance
How Often Should You Exercise?
The American College of Sports Medicine suggest rhythmic, continuous exercise 3 - 5 days a week for 20 to 60 minutes depending on the exercise.
