[ARCHIVED] 2018 General Plan will appear on Primary Election ballot

As required by state law, cities and towns must adopt new plans, or readopt existing plans, every ten years. Show Low’s current General Plan was adopted by the voters in 2008. Based on the local economy over the past ten years and the subsequent lack of development, the City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission collectively felt previous projections remained valid. Per their recommendations, staff updated the existing plan using new demographic data and revised maps to reflect current city limits and conditions.  At the January 16, 2018, regular meeting, the City Council approved the 2018 General Plan and ordered it be placed on the Primary Election ballot for voter approval.

The General Plan is a guideline used by the City Council, Planning and Zoning Commission and others when examining development projects and land use changes. It is used by City staff to review building and development regulations and when preparing recommendations for projects. A General Plan provides evidence to funding entities that the City is committed to a well-planned future, with controlled growth. The goals, objectives, strategies, maps and figures included with the General Plan are used by City staff, City Council and appointed Commissions and Boards to evaluate if a project is consistent with the desires of the community.
