Background: Small wireless facilities are complementary
to cell towers to increase coverage and capacity. The equipment, which
including antennas, processes wireless signals to and from mobile devices for
multiple wireless (cell) carriers. A new state law allows wireless providers to
install and operate these small wireless facilities and related equipment in
the public rights-of-way. State law also
allows cities and towns to charge fees to the companies wishing to install
small wireless facilities in the city’s rights-of-way. Fee amounts are set by state statutes.
The new fees will
be imposed pursuant to Section 3-4-1 of the Show Low City Code. If passed, the
new rates will be effective February 2, 2018.
