[ARCHIVED] Ribbon Cutting for Show Low Library’s New Playground

New interactive playground for kids

SHOW LOW, Ariz. (February 7, 2018) – Come to a ribbon cutting on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. to celebrate the unveiling of a new interactive playground at Show Low Public Library, 181 N. 9th Street. Light refreshments will be served. The playground, located in an area east of the library, is not a typical playground. Designed for children 2 to 12 years old, it features interactive activities to engage four, except taste, of the five senses. It has textural elements, a cave-like area with sound-masking capabilities for kids who need some space alone, climbing features and visual panels that a child can manipulate to create patterns. There are three sets of musical instruments that look like xylophones, with an attached mallet to create different sounds. It will be incorporated into the library’s Storytimes and summer reading program as an added component to the library’s literacy program.

The playground was funded by a $15,000 grant from the Fiesta Bowl Charities by an application through the Show Low Library Friends. The fence surrounding the playground was purchased with separate funds donated by the Library Friends. For more information, call (928) 532-4070 or visit www.showlowaz.gov/library.
