[ARCHIVED] Learn About the Moon at Nasa@My Library Mini Camps in October

All ages can have fun learning about the moon

SHOW LOW, Ariz. (September 27, 2018) – Learn about the moon in four mini camps, geared for various ages, prior to Oct. 20’s International Observe the Moon Night at Show Low Public Library, 181 N. 9th Street. On Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., all ages are invited to tinker with a Google Earth software program created specifically to take a virtual tour of the moon. On Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 10 to 10:30 a.m., a special Itsy Bitsy Storytime for ages 0 to 2 years will focus on the moon. On Thursday, Oct. 18, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., kids ages 3 years and older will learn about the different phases of the moon using Oreo cookies. On Friday, Oct. 19, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., ages 6 years and older can experiment how craters are created using various household materials. The week concludes with the International Observe the Moon Night on Saturday, Oct. 20, with telescope viewings and an exhibition of moon rocks, meteorites and a spacesuit.

            

All the activities are funded by a NASA@ My Library grant, with Show Low the only library in Arizona chosen by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The grant funds STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and space (astronomy) learning opportunities. For more information, call (928) 532-4070.
