New law goes into effect July 3
The Show Low City Council adopted an ordinance in June 2015 that was based on a state law that requires cities and towns to allow the sale and use of certain types of fireworks (called “permissible consumer fireworks”) during specific periods of the year. The new law goes into effect Friday, July 3. This action is in response to changes in state law adopted by our legislators earlier this year.
“Permissible consumer fireworks” include ground and handheld sparkling devices, cylindrical fountains, cone fountains, illuminating torches, wheels, ground spinners, flitter sparklers, toy smoke devices, and wire sparklers or dipped sticks.
Residents can purchase these allowed items in Show Low from July 3 through July 6 for this year only and use these allowed items from July 3 through July 6 for this year only.
However, THE SALE OR USE OF ANY TYPE OF FIREWORKS THAT RISES IN THE AIR, FLIES ABOVE THE GROUND, EXPLODES, OR DETONATES IS STILL PROHIBITED. These prohibited items include firecrackers, bottle rockets, sky rockets, missile-type rockets, helicopters, aerial spinners, torpedoes, roman candles, mine devices, shell devices, and aerial shell kits or reloadable tubes.
